Anton Caius Gurgu ordained to the Holy Diaconate

On Sunday, 8th January 2023, Anton Caius Gurgu was ordained to the Holy Diaconate at the Church of St. Andrew the First Called in Edinburgh, Scotland. His Grace Bishop Raphael of Ilion presided over Matins and concelebrated the Divine Liturgy. Among those concelebrating was the Very Revd Archimandrite Avraamy Neyman, the Reverend Presbyter Luke Jeffery, the Reverend Presbyter Antonios Kakalis and the Reverend Deacon Symeon Menne. The truly joyous day concluded with a hospitable reception honouring the wonderful event in the life of the Church.

The newly ordained Deacon Anton Caius Gurgu was born in Caransebeș, Romania. Fr Caius grew up in a devout Orthodox Christian environment regularly helping in the Church since his childhood. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours from the University of Edinburgh and now works as a Security Consultant. Fr Caius and his wife Thaleia (nee Siminelaki) have two children expecting a third one soon.

Ordination of Bishop Raphael of Ilion

On Tuesday 9 March 2021, our Priest in Charge Archimandrite Raphael Pavouris was ordained Bishop of Ilion by His Eminence, Archbishop of Thyateira and Great Britain Niketas, at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Panteleimon and St. Paraskevi (Harrow, London).

His Grace, Bishop Raphael, will be based at St Andrew’s Community in Edinburgh and will have under his pastoral care the Communities of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Scotland and Northern England.
